In 2025 Qualmark introduced a new assessment model where members received a combination of an online and in-person assessments. Feedback from members has been very supportive of the online approach, in that it is more efficient to use data from previous years, alongside any new information, to help us assess your business using the Sustainable Tourism Business Standards which are recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
Like many organisations, Qualmark has also been experiencing increasing costs to deliver services across the country. To ensure we can continue to meet the cost to service members and continue to provide the level of support our members expect, we are updating how assessments are delivered following the successful trial of online assessments.
From 1 April 2026 Qualmark will move to a model where:
- Initial assessments for new members will continue to be conducted in person.
- All subsequent assessments will be completed online.
Online assessments have been strongly supported, and this approach allows us to continue offering thorough, high‑quality meetings with members.
In-person evaluations will be still offered to new members. This allows us to gain a solid baseline of data and insights of your business which can be utilised for subsequent online evaluations and to support you on your journey as a sustainable tourism business.
To support this updated model, we have made some staffing changes within the Qualmark team to ensure we have the resource and support across the country to deliver a mix of in‑person and online assessments efficiently.
While this does mean some changes to roles within our team, I want to reassure you that your experience as a member will remain seamless, and you will continue to receive the same level of service and support.
There is no change to the services you receive as a Qualmark member. You will continue to be assessed against our Sustainable Tourism Business Standards, which are recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). Our commitment to quality, sustainability, and supporting your business remains the same.
