While tourism operators have been juggling record summer temperatures and devastating storms, Qualmark Tourism Business Advisors have been reviewing a year of change and planning how to continue to add value to businesses.
The Tourism Business Advisors had a heavy workload over the past 12 months implementing the refreshed Qualmark Sustainable Tourism Business criteria. Getting together for four days of workshops in Auckland provided a valuable opportunity for reflecting on the year, sharing experiences and ideas and using the collective knowledge they gained throughout the year to guide their on-going work.
A particular focus was responding to feedback received from a customer survey carried out at the end of last year, reviewing the new criteria. One priority that emerged from the survey, discussed by the group was the need to build a clearer, more transparent pathway to success within the Qualmark standard.
Cameron Lawrence, GM Qualmark said it was valuable to hear the insights gained from the privileged access Qualmark has to thousands of New Zealand tourism businesses. “We heard some of the amazing things businesses are doing to support their staff, local communities and the environment, and the opportunity to discuss these as a group meant we are in an even better position to further help tourism businesses be more successful.”
The team also took the opportunity to meet with Sally Attfield, TIA Hotel Sector Manager and Fergus Brown, TIA Board Member and Holiday Parks NZ Chief Executive. The Tourism Business Advisors discussed many of the challenges facing the industry, and how the focus for organisations such as TIA and HAPNZ were aligned to Qualmark’s objectives.
Like all of our customers, the Tourism Business Advisors are now focused on what is likely to be a very busy 2018, eager to continue to assist our industry in the delivery of quality and sustainable visitor experiences.
