Qualmark, New Zealand tourism’s official quality assurance organisation, is launching a new certification to provide assurance that cleaning protocols and operational procedures around COVID-19 have been met by their tourism operators.
The COVID Clean Approved certification will demonstrate to visitors that appropriate standards have been met and operators are well positioned to attract international travellers.
Qualmark members can complete an online self-assessment of their current COVID-19 policies and procedures to receive a COVID Clean Approved certification.
The assessment ensures tourism operators undertake the necessary measures to help protect travellers against COVID-19, and can adapt quickly to any changes. The certification is a sign of assurance that a Qualmark awarded operator has completed and passed the COVID Clean Approved assessment and has a robust understanding of COVID-19 protocols.
“As borders open to international travel, visitors need to be reassured of our industry’s ability to offer a warm welcome that meets the expectation of our international guests. Qualmark members who have achieved this additional certification are giving visitors reassurance, knowing they can trust tourism operators displaying the label to have met all COVID-19 protocols. They can book with confidence knowing that the operator has been certified as COVID Clean Approved”, says Qualmark General Manager Gregg Anderson.
To achieve the certification, Qualmark members must comply with a detailed list of commitments to staff practice, cleaning protection and equipment, and business operations related to COVID-19. The online self-assessment will cover the current practices the business observes and the businesses COVID-19 safety plan.
The certification was developed with review from the World Travel & Tourism Council to align common global standards to ensure the safety of tourism operators and travellers as the sector shifts to a new normal.
Research from Tourism New Zealand on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on intentions to travel among Australian’s have shown that 63 per cent would like to see enhanced cleaning and sanitisation measures implemented at the destination.
“The COVID Clean Approved certification is intended to help travellers recognise tourism businesses that have adopted health and hygiene standardised protocols, and for operators to maintain vital infectious disease controls for the health and safety of workers and other people regardless of the Alert Level”, says WorkSafe Engagement Lead, Grant Duffy.
Travellers will be able to check whether an operator has been COVID Clean Approved on Tourism New Zealand's consumer website newzealand.com, that markets New Zealand to travellers.
Qualmark continues to support the industry by supporting tourism operators return to business, certifying that appropriate safety standards and cleaning protocols have been achieved.
The Qualmark endorsed COVID Clean Approved online assessment will be available for members to complete through the Qualmark website at covidclean.qualmark.co.nz
Protocols submitted through the self-assessment will be verified by a Qualmark Tourism Business Advisor at the time of your annual evaluation visit.
